Fresher Tournament

The Freshers Tournament is one of the most exciting and welcoming events on the Trinity Basketball calendar. Held every year in February, it’s the perfect gateway into college basketball for anyone in first year, whether you’re an experienced player or picking up a basketball for the very first time.

Taking place over two action-packed days—usually a Thursday and Friday—the tournament is hosted at the impressive UL Arena in Limerick. The men’s tournament unfolds on one day, while the women’s tournament takes centre stage on the other, giving every team their moment to shine. Players face off against colleges from all across Ireland, experiencing the thrill of competitive basketball while proudly representing Trinity for the first time.

But Freshers is so much more than what happens on the court. Teams usually stay overnight, and the evening is packed with laughs, team bonding, and unforgettable memories. For many, it’s their first chance to really connect with teammates, swap stories, and dive into the social side of Trinity Basketball. It’s a weekend where friendships are formed, traditions begin, and plenty of inside jokes are born.
