It’s an absolute honour to step into the role of Club Captain for the upcoming 2025/26 season, taking over from my good friend Hannah Murphy who has had great success in the role this past year. It’s a huge privilege to lead such a hard working committee and talented group of players and I’m looking forward to what’s shaping up to be a great year for the club.
Last season saw the club hit incredible heights as Trinity Basketball is going from strength to strength every season! Our Freshers A team took home their title, our Varsity team went all the way, winning the league A and reigning winners of Varsity A and the Varsity Team were named Trinity Sports Team of the Year after their historic undefeated season. We revived our Colours match tradition after 20 years, had our first double header with the men’s and women’s club teams, and had great results with the men’s BIDL team in their first year. This success across all competitions is a truly massive achievement that speaks volumes about the quality and passion of everyone involved. It will be no easy task to replicate, but the commitment to supporting one another will lead to great things on and off the court this season.
As is tradition in university sport, a new season brings fresh faces and the farewell of many stalwart players. We wish our departing players the best of luck with their new endeavours and hope they stay touch. To all the new players, I am excited to watch you enjoy pulling on the jersey for the first time and welcoming you into our community. Partaking in third level sport has shaped my university experience for the better, through friends, memories and personal well being and I couldn’t urge anyone more to join the club.
Whether you’re a returning player, a new student looking to join or someone who’s never picked up a basketball before, there’s a place for you here. Participation and enthusiasm are key and I encourage everyone to get involved and make the most of these opportunities. We are proactive in keeping everyone up to date with our socials so be sure to follow along there to see the journey!
As captain, I’m committed to leading with nothing but integrity and enthusiasm. I've had the pleasure of being a part of this club for the last four years and as I enter my fifth year, I am enormously excited to represent you all and the club as Captain. Thrilled for the great season ahead and such an exciting time to be involved!
Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Women's Club Captain 2025/26

It’s a massive honour to be elected as captain of the Men’s Trinity Basketball Team, stepping up from my role as vice-captain last year. Succeeding my teammate and friend Cian Tiernan won’t be easy as he’s been a phenomenal leaderand role model over the past three years, and I want to thank him for everything he’s done for the club.
I feel privileged and excited to take on this role at such a peak moment for Trinity Basketball. The club has seen huge recent successes, reaching new heights we’ve never experienced before. My aim is to continue and add to this success in leading both the team and a society who are eager to keep pushing the limits.
This past year has been a breakthrough year for Trinity basketball. On the sporting side, there were countless achievements — too many to list — but some highlights include the men’s college team reaching the A Varsity semi-final for the first time, and the women’s team making a clean sweep: Varsity Champions, Division A College League Champions, and being named Trinity Sports Team of the Year.
Equally important to me is the social side of the club, which I believe had its strongest year yet. We reignited the Colours tradition for the first time in over 20 years which was a massive success. We hosted a variety of events like pub quizzes, 3v3 tournaments, and a Dublin-wide scavenger hunt that brought our members together in a fun, competitive way. Our first-ever social basketball league also saw fantastic participation, giving everyone the chance to get involved, whether they were seasoned players or complete beginners.
Something I love about Trinity basketball is whether you’ve played in the NBA or you’ve never touched a basketball in your life, there’s a place here for you. We take the competitive side seriously, but just as seriously, we aim to create a welcoming, inclusive community.
There’s a real buzz among the teams and committee for the year ahead. I’m genuinely excited to work with the newly elected committee who are driven and dedicated to deliver the best experience possible for every single member of the club. Personally, I promise a year of commitment, energy, and, above all, enjoyment. I eagerly await an exciting upcoming season.
Looking forward to what’s ahead!

Daniel O’Toole

Our committee is elected each year in May at our Annual General Meeting (AGM). This is when members come together to reflect on the year, celebrate our achievements, and vote in the new team who will lead the club for the season ahead.
